BN to field at least 30% young candidates in Johor

Young candidates will form at least 30% of Barisan Nasional’s (BN) cohort for the coming Johor elections, Johor BN chairman, Hasni Mohammad said.

He said he is optimistic that the move will raise BN’s chances of victory. “I see that in general, Johor has many new faces including candidates who are below the age of 40 and at least 30% (of those contesting) are young individuals.”

Hasni said the full list of 56 BN candidates for the state elections was now being finalised and would be announced on Thursday.

BN Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki had previously said that more than 15 names from among BN Youth leaders were offered to the coalition’s top leaders for consideration as candidates in the Johor elections.

The March 12 elections to the state assembly is the first in which voters aged between 18 and 21 will be eligible to vote, following the lowering of the voting age.
